Graveside service for Paul Pedigo

Bray Family Cemetery

April 27, 2025

Millie and I made a one-day trip to Axton Virginia for Paul Pedigo’s graveside memorial service. Paul had passed away a few months before but his wife Betty wanted to wait until his military headstone had been set at the grave. Unfortunately, the VA is very slow about these things, and it was decided to hold the service with a small, engraved granite plaque in place at the grave. Note: the VA headstone was eventually delivered and set in place at the cemetery several months later.

The relatives gathered at the Bray family Cemetery on a beautiful April morning to pay their respects to Paul and offer condolences to his wife and children. Prayers were recited, Robert Ordonez sang a few songs and then as is tradition in the south, friends and family were welcome to say a few words about Paul.

Two representatives of the VA were on hand to perform the military funeral tradition with gun salute, played taps and folded the flag. The flag was then presented to his wife Betty.

Paul’s grandson Mathew Ordonez placed the cremated remains burial vault in the grave and covered it with the rich red Virginia soil.

Afterwards the family proceeded to Hugo’s restaurant in Martinsville Virginia to further reminisce and socialize with family.

Millie and I returned to Myrtle Beach the same day.
